Healthgrades is an organization that rates hospitals. Last week they came out with their list of the best hospitals in Illinois based on Medicare data from 2023-2025. For Illinois, the list includes:
- Advocate Christ Medical Center (Oak Lawn)
- Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital (Barrington)
- Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (Chicago)
- Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (Park Ridge)
- Advocate Sherman Hospital (Elgin)
- Carle Foundation Hospital (Urbana)
- Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside (Rockford)
- Northshore University Healthsystem Evanston Hospital
- Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital (DeKalb)
- Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital
- Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago)
- OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center (Ottawa)
- OSF Saint Francis Medical Center (Peoria)
- Palos Community Hospital (Palos Heights)
- Rush University Medical Center (Chicago)
- Silver Cross Hospital (New Lenox)
- The University of Chicago Medical Center
A couple of interesting things to me from this list:
- While most as I would expect are in the Chicago area, there are some highly rated hospitals in Rockford, DeKalb, Ottawa, Peoria, and Urbana. That is a good sign.
- In 2026, we have been contacted by over 1,000 people who wanted to investigate a case of possible medical malpractice. As good as these hospitals are, mistakes can happen anywhere and do. That does not mean every mistake is medical malpractice, but every one of these hospitals has been successfully sued in the past for medical malpractice. Some of them many times. They are still good places to get medical care.
- There are hospitals not on this list that are awesome. St. Francis in Evanston and Glenbrook Hospital are two that come to mind, but there are so many others.
