Walgreens Workers’ Compensation Claims
Since 2001, we have helped tens of thousands of injured workers, including hundreds with claims against Walgreens. Contact us at 800-517-1614 to speak with an attorney for free.
There are over 12,000 Walgreens stores in the world with more than 540 of those in Illinois. That is one Walgreens store for approximately every 23,000 people in the State. It makes sense that there are a lot here as Walgreens was founded in Chicago in 1901 and their headquarters are in Deerfield. In those stores and the corporate office, they reportedly employ over 10,000 people.
As you can imagine, those workers get injured a lot. Most of the injuries happen at the stores because of the higher risk nature of those jobs. Here are some examples of case we’ve been contacted about in the last few years.
- Multiple instances of back injuries from lifting boxes during stocking of shelves or handling of deliveries.
- PTSD from being robbed at gun point.
- A bunch of slip and falls on wet floors. Some from spilled products, others from customers dragging water in on their shoes during snowy or rainy days. This caused a variety of ankle, leg and arm injuries.
- Concussion from being attacked by an angry customer.
- Carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel from repetitive activities at the cash register.
There are many more instances too of course. At the corporate office we’ve seen a lot of claims as well with the most common being carpal tunnel from repetitive activity.
Walgreens is a self insured company and hires Sedgwick to handle their work comp cases. Sedgwick is known as a TPA or third party administrator. Their goal is to save Walgreens money so they can keep their very lucrative business. They do that by limiting the payout to injured workers, sometimes in ways that don’t follow the law. They are just doing their job, but our opinion is that you should be very careful in dealing with Sedgwick. They aren’t looking out for you.
One thing Sedgwick might do to interfere with your care is assign a nurse case manager to your case. That person might illegally talk to your doctor to try and influence and limit your care. A good attorney will prevent that from happening. Sedgwick also likes to take recorded statements (you don’t have to give one and shouldn’t) and will conduct surveillance on you if your injury is serious or drags on. They are also known for sending workers to IME’s which are medical exams with a doctor of their choice. The goal of that exam is to end your benefits.
A great Illinois work comp attorney will know how to deal with Sedgwick and protect you. We would love to help you find the best lawyer possible for your case. It would be someone who has a great track record and lots of experience. That doesn’t guarantee a result, but does give you the best chance of success. Whoever we’d recommend for your case would be the same firm we’d recommend for a family member or friend with a similar case.
